DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University men's golf senior Spencer Jones has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for June 2014 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the course and in the classroom.
A native of Shelby, N.C., Jones posted a scoring average of 77.4 during his senior season. In seven events, he captured four top-20 finishes and recorded a team-best winning percentage of .534.
No Eagle has played more rounds of competition for the NCCU golf program than Jones with 75 from 2010-14. His career scoring average of 77.23 ranks third on NCCU's all-time list.
A Chancellor's Scholar, Jones graduated from NCCU in May with a bachelor's degree in English. His spring semester grade point average of 3.750 increased his final overall GPA to 3.431. Jones was a member of the NCCU Centennial Scholars program, the English Honor Society and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Golf All-Academic Team.
During his senior year, Jones volunteered as an instructor at golf clinics for The First Tee of the Triangle and answered telephone calls during a fundraiser for WNCU 90.7 FM.
Jones will be attending NCCU Law School this fall to prepare for a career in corporate law.
