NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: ANTHONIA BALLARD

May Graduate Wins Two Hurdles Races in March

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's track & field senior Anthonia Ballard has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for March 2014 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the track and in the classroom.
 
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Ballard won both of her 100-meter hurdles races during the month of March. She crossed the finish line in 13.87 seconds at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 15, then ran to victory in 14.16 seconds at the Wake Forest Open on March 22.
 
During the indoor track season, Ballard won two 60-meter hurdles races and finished second at the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships to earn all-conference honors and a silver medal.
 
That silver medal performance was the third of her college career. Ballard also placed second in the 2013 MEAC outdoor championship and the 2012 MEAC indoor championships.
 
In the classroom, Ballard posted a 3.66 grade point average during the fall 2013 semester and is on track to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in recreation administration.
