NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: EMANUEL CHAPMAN

Men’s Basketball Senior Point Guard Records First Career Double-Double during Team’s 8-0 Month

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University men's basketball senior point guard Emanuel Chapman has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2014 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the hardwood.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Chapman averaged 5.8 points, 6.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in February, guiding the Eagles to an 8-0 record during the month. His best outing resulted in his first career double-double, when the Enloe High School product tallied 14 points and 11 assists in a home victory over Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 8.

During the 2013-14 season, Chapman established himself as the greatest playmaker in NCCU history. Not only did he break the program's single-season record with 217 assists, but he also shattered the Eagles' career assists mark with 617, more than 200 helpers beyond the next in line (Michael Wright with 409).  Chapman also wrapped up his brilliant NCCU tenure ranked second with 173 career steals. His 6.5 assists per contest this season ranks seventh in the nation.

Chapman topped the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in both assists (217) and steals (69) to earn All-MEAC Third-Team honors. He was also selected to the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) All-District Second Team and the Boxtorow Division I All-America Second Team.

The team co-captain helped lead the Eagles to MEAC regular-season and tournament championships, the school's first conference tournament title in 64 years, while advancing to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in program history.

Chapman is on track to graduate in May with a degree in psychology.
