DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's basketball guard Jessica Freeman has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2014 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the hardwood and in the classroom.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Freeman led the Lady Eagles in scoring during the month of January with an average of 15.4 points per game. She also amassed a team-best 24 steals, an average of 2.7 thefts per contest, to go along with 20 rebounds and 15 assists in nine January outings.
The UNC-Wilmington transfer scored in double-figures in eight times, including 21 points with five three-pointers against Delaware State on Jan. 18. In other top performances, Freeman collected 18 points and five steals versus Coppin State on Jan. 25, while closing out the month with 20 points and seven rebounds against Morgan State on Jan. 27.
Freeman, who has already earned an undergraduate degree from UNC-Wilmington to become the first in her family to graduate from college, is pursuing a master's degree in athletic administration at NCCU. In her first semester of graduate school at NCCU, she posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
