NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: SAYYID MUHAMMAD

Football Junior Boasts 3.32 GPA as a Computer Information Systems Major

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football junior Sayyid Muhammad has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2013 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the gridiron and in the classroom.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Muhammad was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 18 for his performance during the Eagles' 24-13 win over Norfolk State. In that contest, the 6-0, 190-pound defensive back blocked a punt in the third quarter, and then blocked a field goal that was scooped up by a teammate and returned 70 yards for a touchdown to provide the Eagles with a two-score lead in the fourth quarter.

Muhammad also blocked a punt at Howard on Oct. 5 that was returned for a touchdown. He now has four blocked kicks during his NCCU career.

Along with his three blocked kicks this season, Muhammad recorded 28 tackles (19 solo), including 3.0 hits for a loss, two pass break-ups and a fumble recovery. The Olympic High School graduate amassed a career-high 10 tackles versus Charlotte in his return to his hometown on Sept. 14.

A member of NCCU's Centennial Scholars Program, Muhammad has achieved a 3.32 grade point average as a computer information systems major.
