DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University volleyball junior setter Alice Genna has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2013 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Rome, Italy, Genna averaged 5.5 assists per set as the team's primary setter during the month of October. In her best outing of the season, she amassed 36 assists, 11 digs, four blocks, two kills and a service ace against Radford on Oct. 1.
During her junior season, she led the Lady Eagles with 404 assists, an average of 5.4 assists per set, and was second on the team with 12 service aces. Genna also recorded 121 digs and 16 blocks.
An NCCU Golden Key Honor Society member, Genna boasts a 3.823 overall grade point average as a dual major in psychology and criminal justice. She was recently inducted into a psychology honor society.
Genna also volunteered at the Painted Chair Auction for the Independent Animal Rescue during the summer.
