DURHAM, N.C. – New North Carolina Central University women’s basketball head coach Vanessa Taylor has announced the hiring of two members of her coaching staff – associate head coach
Ronnie Enoch and assistant coach
Ed Geth.
A native of Burlington, N.C., Enoch spent the previous eight seasons on the bench with Taylor as an assistant coach at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.
Enoch brings strong credentials as a coach and recruiter at the collegiate level. His recruiting efforts helped guide JCSU to the first CIAA Tournament Championship in school history in 2009. The Lady Golden Bulls appeared in the CIAA championship game four out of the last five years and made five berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012). JCSU women's basketball posted a 162-78 overall record in his eight seasons on the bench (2004-12).
Prior to coaching at JCSU, Enoch was an assistant men's basketball coach at West Charlotte High School (2000-02) and an associate men's head basketball coach at Parkland High School (1996-2000). Parkland won the state championship in 1999 under Enoch's tutelage.
In addition, he founded the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) DC Elite Women's Basketball team and served as the head coach for two years (2000-02). Enoch earned a B.S. in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
“I’m very fortunate to have coach Enoch join the women’s basketball coaching staff here at North Carolina Central University,” Taylor said. “We have coached together for more than a decade and achieved some great accomplishments as trusted colleagues. Enoch has a high basketball IQ in terms of coaching strategy, a tenacious work ethic, and a proven ability to find and recruit talent. He will be a solid fit to our coaching staff as we continue to grow and build the Lady Eagles basketball program.”
Geth joins NCCU with eight years of Division I coaching experience and a national championship as a player at the University of North Carolina to his credit.
He spent the 2011-12 campaign as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Marshall University, specializing in the development of post players. Prior to Marshall, Geth spent seven seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach at Wofford College.
Geth coached boys' and girls' basketball at Southern Durham High School from 2000-04, serving as girls’ associate head coach and boys’ assistant coach. During his time at Southern, he coached countless Division I and NBA athletes and helped guide the girls’ team to the state championship title game in 2004. Geth also spent the 1999-2000 campaign as a girls’ basketball assistant coach at Hillside High School in Durham, N.C.
He served as assistant coach with the Maryland Nighthawks of the American Basketball Association under head coach James "Twiggy" Sanders.
His national championship ring came while playing for the University of North Carolina in 1993, beating the University of Michigan in the NCAA title game. While playing with the Tar Heels from 1992-96, Geth was a four-year letterwinner and a participant of the 1995 Final Four team.
After completing his North Carolina career, he played professionally overseas in Sweden, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, as well as with the United States Basketball League's Raleigh Cougars in 1997-98.
A native of Norfolk, Va., he graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in speech communications. While at Granby High School, Geth was an honor-roll student and All-American player, garnering seven varsity letters at Granby in basketball and track & field.
“I am excited to have coach Geth join the staff,” Taylor said. “He brings a wealth of college coaching experience and has a thorough understanding of what it takes to build a successful program. His strong ties in the Triangle area will lead us in our efforts to garner some of the top talent in our local community. Coach Geth brings extensive camp expertise, solid player development, recruiting expertise and outstanding community relations to our women’s basketball program.”
