Williams makes history as NCCU’s first MEAC Defensive Player of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University junior Chasidy Williams has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2011 in recognition to her outstanding contributions to the Lady Eagles basketball team.

In the month of December, the junior from Fayetteville, N.C., scored in double-figures in all seven contests, notched two double-doubles and achieved a season-high 27 points against North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday, Dec. 3.

On Monday, Dec. 19, Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.  She attained the momentous honor off of her performances in the Lady Eagles 65-64 victory over Coker College on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and 68-48 loss to Clemson on Sunday, Dec. 20.  The junior makes history as the first NCCU women’s basketball student-athlete to receive a MEAC player of the week achievement.

This season, Williams guides the mighty maroon with 237 points (15.8), 115 rebounds (7.7), 535 minutes (35.7), 41 steals and 10 blocks.
Williams is a psychology major at NCCU.
