Elijah Coleman joins the North Carolina Central University football program for the 2026 season, serving as recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach.

Coleman is no stranger to the MEAC, having played and coached at Howard University.

He comes to Durham after serving three seasons on staff at Howard. He joined the Bison coaching staff in 2023 as a quality control coach after a successful playing career, then was named assistant defensive backs coach in 2024 and cornerbacks coach for the 2025 season.

During Coleman’s coaching tenure with the Bison, defensive back Kenny Gallop, Jr. was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Year (2023) and was a 2024 BOXTOROW and Associated Press All-American.

From 2019-22, Coleman was a member of the Bison football team. In 2021, he played in 10 contests and recorded two interceptions. In his final season, he guided the program to its first conference title since 1993.

Off the field, Coleman was named to both the MEAC Football All-Academic Team and Commissioner's All-Academic Team.

Coleman graduated from Howard with a degree in mathematics.
