DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University Eagles volleyball team will take on the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in McLendon-McDougald Gym. "Bump, Set... VOTE" is the theme for the match. Fans wearing an "I Voted" sticker will receive a small token of appreciation from the NCCU Athletics Department. NCCU is attempting to break the school record attendance for volleyball, which currently stands at 823 (Nov. 5, 2005 - CIAA Championship match). Admission is free. NCCU junior transfer Avaniki Campbell has amassed 186 kills so far this season for an average of 2.2 kills per game, while junior Nadia Hayes is second with 160 kills, averaging 1.78 kills per game, and leads the team with 65 blocks. NCCU (4-23) has faced seven MEAC schools so far this season. The Eagles are 2-5 against MEAC competition. In the earlier Eagle-Aggie volleyball match, A&T defeated NCCU 3-1 in Greensboro on Oct. 7. NCCU was led by Campbell and Hayes with 13 kills each. Ashley Shade had a match-high of 36 assists. Defensively, Rachel Lloyd led the match with 15 digs. The Aggies (6-21) finished their home season with a 3-0 sweep of South Carolina State on Sunday (Nov. 2). This match will be broadcast on the internet at www.NCCUEaglePride.com. Play-by-play announcer Chris Hooks will call the live action along with former NCCU volleyball player Danielle Johnson-Webb, starting with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m. |
