RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina Central University swept the singles competition and cruised to an 8-1 victory over Peace College on Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C. NCCU rookie Tatiana Velasquez blanked her opponent at No. 2 singles to claim a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Ashley Rogers (No. 1 - 6-2, 6-0), Stephanie Lee (No. 3 - 6-1, 6-0), Ambra Mason (No. 5 - 6-1, 6-1) and Ashley McRae (No. 6 - 6-1, 6-0) also earned two-set singles victories for the Lady Eagles, while Antionette Spain won a three-set battle at No. 4 singles (6-4, 2-6, 10-6). In doubles competition, NCCU's Rogers and Velasquez teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1, while Mason and Spain joined forces for a lengthy 8-6 victory. Peace earned the No. 3 doubles match with Katie Lamb and Ksenia Kulik defeating NCCU's McRae and Lakisha McDougald, 8-5. |
