NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE EARNS INTERNSHIP WITH NIKE

Rising Senior Starts Internship June 4 in Atlanta

DURHAM, N.C. - For the second straight year a North Carolina Central University rising senior student-athlete has been selected as a member of the Nike Internship Program. Similar to former NCCU football player Joseph Hutchinson, Tenika Neely, a member of the women’s basketball team, has been selected to intern in the 12-week program in Atlanta, Ga., starting on June 4.

After being advised by the NCCU Student-Athlete Support Services’ staff to apply in Oct. 2012, Neely went through two interviews in December, a phone interview in January and a video interview in February before being chosen mid-March for the program.

The Nike Internship Program by many accounts is considered a Top-15 internship in the United States by any company as Neely will serve as a Strategic Planning Intern to the company.

The Nike Internship Program is a highly competitive program providing interns with the opportunity to gain the best hands-on experience in virtually every area within Nike. Neely will be provided with real world opportunities ranging from product design, product development, finance, sports marketing, logistics, facility management and human resources.

Neely, a double major in political science and psychology said, “I am honored to have been selected for this internship with the opportunity to represent NCCU and the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). I know this experience will help me in my life after college by giving me great work experience and networking opportunities.”
