NCCU BASEBALL SEES 12 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN MEAC ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

Eagles tied for the second-most in the conference

NORFOLK, VA. – The North Carolina Central University baseball program saw 12 student-athletes achieve academic success during the 2012-13 school year by earning 2013 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) All-Academic honors, the league announced on Wednesday.
 
The following student-athletes earned All-Academic honors:  Gabe Brown (Recreation), Luis Diaz (Sociology), Glenn Frye (Business), Sam Fulmer (Health), Gavin Guarrera (Sociology), Jasper Jones (Criminal Justice), Troy Marrow (Criminal Justice), Ruben Rios (Sociology), Michael Romano (Sociology), Tyson Simpson (Public Administration), Carter Williamson (Business), and Cory Williamson (Business).
 
“They represent the true meaning of being a student-athlete,” said NCCU head baseball coach Jim Koerner.  “I am very proud of their accomplishments in the classroom and they should be commended.”
 
NCCU had the second highest number of student-athletes to record a grade point average of 3.0 or better during the year tying with both Savannah State and Bethune-Cookman who also had 12, as Delaware State led the way with 16.  The league combined for a total of 81 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better.
 
The requirements to earn All-MEAC Academic honors are for sophomore, junior, and senior student-athletes to have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year are eligible.
