FORMER PLAYERS DONATE $10,000 TO SUPPORT NCCU FOOTBALL PROGRAM

The Eagle Athletic Foundation presented a check for $10,000 to the NCCU Football program during halftime of the Eagles last home game on Nov. 17. The presentation was made to NCCU Athletics Director Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree by foundation board members.

The Eagle Athletic Foundation, Inc. is an organization established by former players in an effort to pay-it-forward and sustain the legacy of long time NCCU coach, educator and trainer Robert "Stonewall” Jackson. The donated funds were raised primarily from proceeds from the foundation’s annual Robert “Stonewall” Jackson Legacy Golf Classic.

“It’s a tremendous contribution,” Wicker-McCree said. “To have an organization that is so dedicated and loyal to seeing our football program be enhanced and able to provide more opportunities for our student-athletes is wonderful.  It really shows the dedication of our former students-athletes and alums who want to see us have a great Division I program.”

Wicker-McCree said the contribution will help with recruiting and other efforts to enhance the NCCU football program.

The Robert “Stonewall” Jackson Legacy Golf tournament is held each summer in July and continues to grow each year. The 2012 event was the largest ever thanks to a record number of golfers and patrons.  Sponsors included, The NFL’s New York Football Giants, Philadelphia Chapter of the NCCU Alumni Association, Heritage Home Care Agency, SB&J Enterprises, YE & Elite Events, North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, Rapid Tax, and The Montgomery Law Firm. Also, The City of Charlotte proclaimed July 27, 2012 as Coach Robert “Stonewall” Jackson Day.

“Making that check presentation was one my proudest moments as it was for our entire group. We look forward to the challenge of engaging more former Eagle players to make next year's donation even larger,” said Brian McCorkle, a foundation board member. “The NCCU football program continues to provide opportunities for young men to not only get a college education, but compete on the FCS level. The program is going in the right direction and I am both honored and humbled to be a part of it.”
